This from Kali L:

GRIEF

August is heavy with loss.

Heave this heart in my mouth

I have the eyes of a gypsy.

I wake up early in the morning and hold the blankets

over my face. I wonder if you have memorized her yet

the way I have memorized the freckle in the corner of

my lips.

I have left a Christmas candle in my window to carry

me through this darkness. I worry about the day the battery

dies. I never make it to sunrise anymore. I keep trying to move back

inside my body; my heart falls out of my chest.

I forget your voice and the way your hand felt locked in mine.

I knew I couldn’t hold onto you forever.

I will lose all those I love including myself.

The light in my window flickers off.

August hangs itself from the barn rafters

Wednesday’s Dinner posted on

Kat and I enjoyed the hospitality of the Kane’s and the ambience and burgeronomy of the Bristol Lounge.
Guess what we had for dinner?
They did not disappoint.
Tasted even better sharing the moment with such amiable companions.

Expensive. But you get value in the generous spacing of the tables, the feelings of comfort and luxury, the service, the sound level, the decor, the view. And the food’s pretty good, too.

Chuckle of the day:
Friday, August 30, 2019

A vampire bat came flapping in from the night covered in fresh blood and parked himself on the roof of the cave to get some sleep.
Pretty soon all the other bats smelt the blood and began hassling him about where he got it.

“Go away! Let me get some sleep.”
But they persisted.

"OK, follow me," he said and flew out of the cave with hundreds of bats behind him.
Down through a valley they went, across a river and into a forest of trees.
Finally he slowed down and all the other bats excitedly milled around him.

"Now, do you see that tree over there?" he asked.
"Yes, Yes, Yes!" the bats all screamed in a frenzy.

"Good!" said the first bat, "Because I didn't!"

I Have a Dream," our Lead Picture, is a public speech that was delivered by American civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom on August 28, 1963, in which he called for civil and economic rights and an end to racism in the United States.

Delivered to over 250,000 civil rights supporters from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., the speech was a defining moment of the civil rights movement and among the most iconic speeches in American history.

Beginning with a reference to the Emancipation Proclamation, which freed millions of slaves in 1863, King said "one hundred years later, the Negro still is not free".

Toward the end of the speech, King departed from his prepared text for a partly improvised peroration on the theme "I have a dream", prompted by Mahalia Jackson's cry: "Tell them about the dream, Martin!"

In this part of the speech, which most excited the listeners and has now become its most famous, King described his dreams of freedom and equality arising from a land of slavery and hatred.

Jon Meacham writes that, "With a single phrase, Martin Luther King Jr. joined Jefferson and Lincoln in the ranks of men who've shaped modern America".

The speech was ranked the top American speech of the 20th century in a 1999 poll of scholars of public address.

To Kali L for her heartfelt commentary.

To the Kanes for hosting dinner at the Four seasons.

To Marc O and others who had complimentary things to say about the picture of my daughter and I. With no recognition at all to those who pointed out the obvious imbalance of good looks.

And to the Microsoft team at the Prudential Center for their unflagging availability to help with a constant flow of technological problems, today, analyzing the analytics of the social media.

Always thanks to Wikipedia, the Lead and the Thumbnail sections of the Blog very often shaped from stories taken from that amazing website. They are truly worthy of public support.
