Let’s see.
What to write about?

So my first attempt at mailing the blog through Mail chimp was not successful.
Blog followers received their day of existentialautotrip the usual way.

The new way, I hope now for a Saturday success, will find the blog coming to you through Mail chimp and will contain a box for new subscribers to punch in their names and email addresses, adding them to the blog’s mailing list without the help of a human intermediary.

Let’s see.
Why Mail chimp?
They are a growth vehicle for the blog, sending out links to the blog for selected people to try and hopefully effortlessly sign on.
That program will start next week and go on without a wrinkle to disturb our cozy group.

Let’s see.
The takeaway from this is that with a little persistence, tenacity, and help from others, we can grow. At the start of the blog we spent a week learning to post a simple one page word document and another week learning how to mail it. Then it took a lot of changes to arrive at a basic blog with a rhythmic content. Along the way we learned how to work with images.

Let’s see.
Now we are ready, with this simple blog format, to seed our forays into the vastness of social media and the Internet with a way for readers out there, who share a love of art, food, music, randomness, intellectual discourse, folksy entries, chuckles, guest submissions, images, and photographs, for such readers to sign on to our blog.

Let’s see.
No, I am not nervous, in the sense of agitation or alarm or high-strung.
But anxious, if there is a real difference, in the sense of experiencing unease about an imminent event with an uncertain outcome.

Not nervous. In fact, I feel a certain joyousness in the event: it’s all good. The worst scenario is that we’re no better off than we were before.
And, in fact, we’ve learned a lot more about technology, learning the variety and degree of specialization available to the user when dealing with cloud companies.
What will come of all of this?

Let’s see.

London Broil, from the shoulder. From the blade cut the London Broil will show a bristle running through it. Acceptable to some people since the meat from the blade is better marbled.

My 385th consecutive posting, committed to 5,000.
After 385 posts we’re at the 7.70% mark of my commitment, the commitment a different way of marking the passage of time.

Time is 12.01am.

On Friday, Boston’s temperature will reach a high of 52* with a feels-like of 48* with a risk of thundershowers.

Dinner for tonight will be London Broil.

Question of the Day:
What is a server?

This thought from Sally C, responding to Colleen’s idea of a forum for old writers who have stories to tell.

Hi, Dom,

Building on Colleen's idea of promoting senior writing groups, I had a similar idea a couple years ago, as a source of beta readers.  Any author would probably be welcomed with open arms, who wanted to invite seniors at a senior center or assisted living facility to read his or her manuscript.  With broad experiences garnered over a lifetime, many, if not most, of our seniors could provide much insight and wisdom to an author.  For those with limited vision, an author would do multiple duty by reading it aloud to them - not only does this reveal awkward prose and grammar issues, but it also improves the author's ability to speak publicly, to say nothing of the blessing to the listeners who may otherwise never have a chance to enjoy the story.

Web Meister Responds: True, Sally. Good point.

This thought, too, from Sally:

Love the picture of the old Russian woman.  I met an elderly lady last Saturday in Market Basket, crowded with shoppers who usually frequent the striking Stop N Shop next door and those finishing their Easter lists, as well as the usual Saturday mob.  She looked to be well into her nineties.  Seeing her moving cautiously but with determination along the heads of the aisles, I was afraid that she might get jostled or knocked down.  So I asked her what she was looking for, and it was the flowers.  Her daughter was elsewhere in the store, picking up items, so she wasn't alone there.  I pointed out where the florist section was.  Part of what drew me to her was her beauty.  She was a tiny bird of a woman, trim, neatly coiffed, dressed in a long woolen tweed coat the color of hay, with a small straw hat decorated with spring-colored ribbons on her head.  Her eyes were calm and bright, her face content.  She glowed.  We had nothing more than this exchange, but she is still moving, slowly but steadily, through my mind all these days later.  She was a blessing!

This picture also reminds me of a picture in National Geographic from 1983 of a Scottish woman in her eighties who had assisted the man who took the photograph, when he turned his ankle during his hike along Hadrian's Wall. She glowed with the joy of life, although it had obviously been a rugged one on the Scottish moors.

"Old people" have so much to contribute!  I am blessed to number so many of them among my favorite people.

Sally

Web Meister Responds: Nice.

Answer to the Question of the Day:
What is a server?

Wikimedia Foundation servers Victorgrigas - Own work

In computing, a server is a computer program or a device that provides functionality for other programs or devices, called "clients".
This architecture is called the client–server model, and a single overall computation is distributed across multiple processes or devices.

Servers can provide various functionalities, often called "services", such as sharing data or resources among multiple clients, or performing computation for a client.
A single server can serve multiple clients, and a single client can use multiple servers.
A client process may run on the same device or may connect over a network to a server on a different device.
Typical servers are database servers, file servers, mail servers, print servers, web servers, game servers, and application servers.

Client–server systems are today most frequently implemented by (and often identified with) the request–response model: a client sends a request to the server, which performs some action and sends a response back to the client, typically with a result or acknowledgement. Designating a computer as "server-class hardware" implies that it is specialized for running servers on it. This often implies that it is more powerful and reliable than standard personal computers, but alternatively, large computing clusters may be composed of many relatively simple, replaceable server components.

Good Morning on this Friday, the Twenty-Sixth Day of April.

We posted a thought on the blog’s development, and in short order we counted our postings, talked about the weather, and decided on London Broil for dinner.
We posted a letter from Sally C that praised Colleen’s idea of expanding the blog to include entries from older citizens. The same email related a pertinent experience Sally had.
We posted a short chuckle – still a chuckle.
Our q and a dealt with servers in computer jargon.

And now? Gotta go.

Che vuoi? Le pocketbook?

See you soon.

Your love.
