I so loved writing this poem.
To Summarize a Moon
by Kali L.
The sun sets over the
bay and the Harvest moon rises above the ocean. It is September of 2019 now. How do I show you? How do I show you what love did to us? The yellow house on Orange Street knows. You were everything right about June of 1987 & I am waiting for you to come back
from South Korea- it’s October of 2018. I am full of rage that you did not text me you were on your way from the airport. Everything you did was beautiful & wrong. Everything I did was of course, beautiful and wrong. I took a deep breath before you ran into
the house to tell me, Nonno
is dying;
we’ve got to go
to the hospital. That
night, I stopped breathing. I practiced bracing myself for every impact imaginable; the truth is no matter how much practice one does there simply is not enough preparation for loss. I imagine Nonno still on the couch, clicking the tv channels up and down
asking you, when
will you marry her? Nonno,
we were both complicit weren’t we? We both knew he was never going to marry me and we both wanted it so badly. The night you took your last breath, mine left with you. I am, a year later, still trying to breathe.

Had a terrific 3lb Sirloin, slow-roasted @ 200* for 2 hours then grilled for a nice caramelization.
With a short-cut but tasty ratatouille.
Shared it with cousin and friend.

This from Sally C:
Dear Dom,
Along similar lines as Kali's remarks on humans' need for touch, I found it interesting to read in Mary Rose O'Reilley's book , "The Barn at the End of the World," (one woman's journey to find spiritual unity with the physical world) that when Vatican II decreed that Gregorian chant was no longer necessary and discouraged it, the monks who had spent their ministry practicing it slowly but steadily sickened, and some died of despair.
The role of Gregorian chant (and other such musical endeavors) to soothe, comfort, and provide serenity was certainly not then understood. an interesting phenomenon, which likely deserves further study for insight.
(I wonder how its effect on blood pressure and such things might show.)
I recently began listening to this music again, having found it streaming online on AccuRadio, although it's likely available on other sites.
I find the men's voices more appealing, probably because I am a woman and am physiologically programmed so, but the women's selections are lovely as well.
Web Meister’s Response: I love, love, love Gregorian chant. Must play it!

Jacobs strove throughout her life to change laws that limited women's access to equality, starting in 1883 with an unsuccessful court challenge and eventually achieving success 100 years ago today, on 18 September 1919, with the signing of a suffrage bill into law.
She is also noted for founding the world's first birth control clinic, in 1882.
As a child Jacobs yearned to become a doctor like her father and, despite existing barriers, she fought to gain entry to higher education and became the first woman officially to attend a Dutch university, and one of the first female physicians in the Netherlands.
Providing medical services to women and children, she grew concerned over the health of working women, and although she continued to practice medicine until 1903, she increasingly turned her attention to activism with a view to improving women's lives.
In addition to her suffrage work she led campaigns aimed at deregulating prostitution, improving women's working conditions, and promoting peace.
From 1883, when Jacobs first challenged the authorities on women's right to vote, she strove throughout her life to change laws that limited women's access to equality.
She was successful in her campaign to establish mandatory break laws in retail workers' employment and in attaining the vote for Dutch women in 1919.
Involved in the international women's movement, Jacobs traveled throughout the world speaking about women's issues and documenting the socio-economic and political status of women.
She was instrumental in the establishment of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom and an active participant in the peace movement.
She is recognized internationally for her contributions to women's rights and status.
