glass half filled.jpg

One step forward; two steps back.

We have three calls to make.
One results in an improvement to our life: the purchase of a new waist bag.
(I’ve had mine for several years and the belt loop is close to breaking off.)
Not so the other two.

One of those is to negotiate the return of an item bought online or sent in error.
The other looking for help with technology: my File Explorer has been corrupted.
They take valuable time and when we’re done where are we?
No further along on our life’s goals than we were when the issues arose.
Meanwhile, the clock has ticked, the sand-grains of time have fallen through.

Of course, the glass-half-filled girls will say, “But we must expect roadblocks, detours.
“Holding our ground against these setbacks is a victory of sorts.”

Perhaps feeling like that when the two steps back are in the past.
But during the sorting-out process we feel frustration and impatience.

The nuts and bolts of daily living go “Clickety clack.”
Take us one step forward; two steps back.

Note the new look of the blog’s landing page: simply Howard’s newly-designed logo with a paragraph-long description.

Weather
Saturday, July 27, 2019

On this day Boston will present residents with a seasonably warm day, a high of 81* and a feels-like of 82* with some clouds.
More nice summer days to follow.

Chuckle of the Day:
Saturday, July 27, 2019

A father passing by his son's bedroom was astonished to see the bed was nicely made and everything was picked up.
Then, he saw an envelope, propped up prominently on the pillow.
It was addressed, 'Dad'.
With the worst premonition, he opened the envelope and read the letter, with trembling hands:

"Dear, Dad.

It is with great regret and sorrow that I'm writing you.
I had to elope with my new girlfriend, because I wanted to avoid a scene with Mum and you.

I've been finding real passion with Stacy.
She is so nice, but I knew you would not approve of her because of all her piercing's, tattoos, her tight Motorcycle clothes, and because she is so much older than I am.

But it's not only the passion, Dad.
She's pregnant.
Stacy said that we will be very happy.
She owns a trailer in the woods, and has a stack of firewood for the whole winter.

We share a dream of having many more children.
Stacy has opened my eyes to the fact that marijuana doesn't really hurt anyone.
We'll be growing it for ourselves and trading it with the other people in the commune for all the cocaine and ecstasy we want.

In the meantime, we'll pray that science will find a cure for AIDS so that Stacy can get better.
She sure deserves it!

Don't worry Dad, I'm 15, and I know how to take care of myself.
Someday, I'm sure we'll be back to visit so you can get to know your many grandchildren.

Love, your son, Joshua.

P.S. Dad, none of the above is true.
I'm over at Jason's house.

I just wanted to remind you that there are worse things in life than the school report that's on the kitchen table.
Call when it is safe for me to come home!"

This from Sally C:

Dear Dom,

Here's an illustration of the weird mood I'm in today:

I received an email from an alternate health newsletter.
Email advertisement headline: Do You Have Memory Loss?
Me: How would I know?

Unrelated to weird mood above:  Marvelous bit on the "Hidden Figures" today.  Thank you.  That was one astonishing group of women.  It's about time they got recognized.  I gave the book to my mother as a birthday gift, but haven't had a chance to read it myself yet.  I have seen the film.  I never cease to be amazed at the dignity that black Americans have maintained in the face of such indignities as were legislated and practiced for so long.

Sally

Web Meister responds: Cute joke, Sally. Amen to Hidden Figures.

The History of the True Cross or The Legend of the True Cross is a sequence of frescoes painted by Piero della Francesca in the Basilica of San Francesco in Arezzo.
It is his largest work, and generally considered one of his finest, and an early Renaissance masterpiece.

(The Dream of Constantine, one of the earliest nocturnal scenes in Western art (pre-restoration image). Part of series of The History of the True Cross

Part of series of The History of the True Cross

Its theme, derived from the popular 13th century book on the lives of saints by Jacopo da Varagine, the Golden Legend, is the triumph of the True Cross – the legend of the wood from the Garden of Eden becoming the Cross on which Jesus Christ was crucified.

This work demonstrates Piero's advanced knowledge of perspective and color, his geometric orderliness and skill in pictorial construction.

Good Morning on this Saturday, the twenty-seventh day of July, 2019

Our lead picture features a photo of the fresco series, The History of the True Cross.
And our Thumbnail adds a couple of additional photographs and a bit more info on the subject.
Our commentary deals with the glass half-filled idea.
We posted a Boston weather report and the ticking calendar as illustrated by the growing number of posts as calendar markers.
We posted a chuckle and shared a dinner as well as a letter from Sally C, the jokester and film critic. And did we say “Good Friend?” She is.

And now? Gotta go.

Che vuoi? Le pocketbook?
See you soon.
Your love.
