“Dad, be sure to send me your recipe for tuna salad.”
My twenty-year-old daughter has spent a lifetime successfully avoiding learning how to.
Cook.
I am a terrific cook and housekeeper so why should she learn?
She had other interests.
In fairness to myself, I early recognized that her genius lay elsewhere and never pushed it.
And, indeed, her genus did assert itself in academics and in extra-curricular school activities.
Times change.
We adapt.
So Kat is setting up a household with a terrific guy whom I much admire and love.
The couple must learn to shop and prep in very short order.
Must learn food budgeting.
They know little but, both being very smart, will learn a lot, quickly.
They are comforted by the knowledge that it isn’t sink or swim.
It’s worse.
They want so much to prove they’re ready.
They want to avoid at all costs the call home that they are short of funds.
They are ready, whether or not the phone call comes.
I am driving her to NYC on Friday with her new cookbook in hand, at the ready.
She has a lot of food questions.
I don’t provide many answers except of the most general, reassuring sort.
Too many details might be intimidating.
Will definitely blot out the big picture.
It’s odd, isn’t it?
How idiosyncratic we all are?
I’d prefer to show her how to make a Marinara Sauce.
How to roast a chicken.
Not to be.
“Dad, be sure to send me your recipe for tuna salad.”

What is a good Tuna Salad recipe?

Chuckle of the Day:
Thursday, May 30, 2019
AA man and his wife were having some problems at home and were giving each other the silent treatment.
The man realized that he would need his wife to wake him at 5.00 am for an early morning business flight to Chicago.
Not wanting to be the first to break the silence, he finally wrote on a piece of paper, "Please wake me at 5.00 am."
The next morning the man woke up, only to discover it was 9.00am, and that he had missed his flight.
Furious, he was about to go and see why his wife hadn't woken him when he noticed a piece of paper by the bed ... "It is 5.00am; wake up."
