I've seen over a dozen Broadway shows since moving to New York, and no one performer has stuck out like Lea Michele in Funny Girl. There was an incredible amount of hype going into this show, and she deserves all of it.
For the book, Kitchen Confidential (Anthony Bourdain), the third of my nine most fun books of 2022.
If you like the hyper masculinity and tremendous fun of the fine dining industry.

Kudos to Bank of America for being a great place to work — including its efforts to pay all employees a fair, living wage. Its policies have landed it at the top of the JUST 100 list.
Caught and exposed: President Joseph Biden is human. Top secret documents under his watch are found off-site. He is to blame.
Is this a little bad? A little, yes.
But holistically, a good thing.
Because a comparison of Biden’s and Trump’s mishandling of Top Secret documents is another dramatic example of the superiority of the sitting President to our modern-day Benedict Arnold, Donald Trump.
Biden’s missteps are minor, several individual documents v many cases of Trump document, thousands of individual documents.
Storage of the Top Secret documents was much tighter with Biden than those with Trump.
The responses of the two politicians to the accusations reveal the differences in the characteristics of the two administrations.
Joe Biden’s was co-operative. His quote: "We immediately turned them over to the Archives and the Justice Department. We're fully cooperating, and looking forward to getting this resolved quickly," he added. "I think you're going to find there's nothing there. I have no regrets. ... There is no there there." He was calm, rational, and co-operative. Trump was wild, truculent, near insane.
The good thing as we observe Trump’s grip on the Republican Party is that the coverage of Biden’s mistakes is going to prolong the public display of Trump’s extremism. The Democrats will make darn sure of it. Prolonging public exposure to Trump’s misdeeds can only serve as a slow diminution of what little stature remains of the creature Trump.

Favorite Films of 2022 Part 4
This week’s picks were exciting to put together because of how varied they are. A stop motion cartoon that’s scary?! A Covid-19 tinged murder mystery? An instant Pixar classic where puberty turns you into a giant animal?! How could anything top that? How about a 3-hour Indian film epic? Or a low-key yet excellent sports movie with a great human story at its core? All of these films are readily streaming so if you’re curious check out a little more on each one here
Today I fished the Collon Cura river and moved lodges to a much bigger cattle ranch owned by avid hunters who are good friends with the owners of the first lodge.

I continued my investigation into tempura which included buying equipment and flours.
I really wanted to introduce tempura into my kitchen. I acquired a deep-fat fryer and began to learn my way.
After lots of preparation, I made some French fries as a trial.
Poor. They were poor.
I tried fried clams. Worse than poor.
And so much work, especially caring for the appliances and small wares that have to be cleaned after each cook.

“If you surveyed a hundred typical middle-aged Americans, I bet you’d find that only two of them could tell you their blood types, but every last one of them would know the theme song from the Beverly Hillbillies.”

I asked a knowledgeable friend for a good piece of music,
He offered Schubert’s “Fantasie in F-minor D.940”, and a particular version of it that features Murray Perahia and Radu Lupu.
He sent this link to Spotify:

Blog meister responds: I am totally in love with it! Thank you, my friend.

Travel
On Day Six we wake in Siena and pack our clothes, and start a leisurely drive through a couple of great towns. This day will end in Florence, the end of our Tuscan-countryside leg of the trip.
The first of the two towns, San Gimignano, is a small walled medieval hill town famous for its medieval architecture. San Gim is unique in its preservation of about a dozen of its tower houses, which, with its hilltop setting and encircling walls, form an unforgettable skyline. Within the walls, the well-preserved buildings include notable examples of both Romanesque and Gothic architecture, with outstanding examples of secular buildings as well as churches. The historic center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The second town of our day is Pisa.
Pisa straddles the Arno just before it empties into the Ligurian Sea and is known worldwide for its leaning tower, the city contains more than twenty other historic churches, several medieval palaces, and bridges across the Arno. Much of the city's architecture was financed from its history as one of the Italian maritime republics. The city is also home to the University of Pisa, which has a history going back to the 12th century, the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa, founded by Napoleon in 1810, and its offshoot, the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies.
At the end of the day we’ll check into our last hotel of the trip and enjoy a leisurely, delicious dinner in a Guide Michelin starred restaurant.

Short Essay*
David Van Cortlandt Crosby (August 14, 1941 – c. January 19, 2023) was an American singer, guitarist, and songwriter. In addition to his solo career, he was a founding member of both the Byrds and Crosby, Stills & Nash.
Crosby joined the Byrds in 1964. They got their first number-one hit in April 1965 with a cover of "Mr. Tambourine Man" by Bob Dylan. Crosby appeared on the Byrds' first five albums and produced the original lineup's 1973 reunion album. In 1967 he joined Buffalo Springfield on stage at the Monterey Pop Festival, which contributed to his dismissal from the Byrds. He subsequently formed Crosby, Stills & Nash in 1968 with Stephen Stills (of Buffalo Springfield) and Graham Nash of the Hollies. After the release of their debut album, CSN won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist of 1969. Neil Young joined the group for live appearances, their second concert being Woodstock, before recording their second album Déjà Vu. Meant to be a group that could collaborate freely, Crosby and Nash recorded three gold albums in the 1970s, while the core trio of CSN remained active from 1976 until 2016. CSNY reunions took place in each decade from the 1970s through the 2000s.
Songs Crosby wrote or co-wrote include "Lady Friend", "Everybody's Been Burned", "Why", and "Eight Miles High" with the Byrds and "Guinnevere", "Wooden Ships", "Shadow Captain", and "In My Dreams" with Crosby, Stills & Nash. He wrote "Almost Cut My Hair" and the title track "Déjà Vu" for Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young's 1970 album of the same name. He is known for having employed alternative guitar tunings and jazz influences. He released six solo albums, five of which charted. Additionally, he formed a jazz-influenced trio with his son James Raymond and guitarist Jeff Pevar in CPR. Crosby's work with the Byrds and CSNY has sold over 35 million albums.
Crosby was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice: once for his work in the Byrds and again for his work with CSN. Five albums to which he contributed are included in Rolling Stone's The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, three with the Byrds and two with CSN(Y). He was outspoken politically and was sometimes depicted as emblematic of the counterculture of the 1960s.

Anthony Albanese
In the 2022 election, Albanese led his party to a decisive victory against Scott Morrison's Liberal-National Coalition. Albanese is the first Italian-Australian to become prime minister, the first Australian prime minister to have a non-Anglo-Celtic surname, and is the last of the 16 Australian prime ministers who have served under Queen Elizabeth II. He was sworn in on 23 May 2022, alongside four senior frontbench colleagues.
Albanese's first acts as prime minister included updating Australia's climate targets in an effort to reach carbon neutrality by 2050, and supporting an increase to the national minimum wage.
His government legislated a national anti-corruption commission, and made major changes to Australian labor law.
In foreign policy, Albanese pledged further logistical support to Ukraine to assist with the Russo-Ukrainian war, has attempted to strengthen relations in the Pacific region, and held a high-level meeting with Chinese president Xi Jinping, ending a diplomatic freeze between Australia and China.
