Tinkering.
I love tinkering.
Diets, sleep, and daily routine are constant victims of my not leaving well enough alone.

Here’s an update.

Diets. I have eschewed the one giant, stuff-myself-to-groaning dinner in favor of grazing. It seems to be working for me. I’ve added an 8pm snack of a small yogurt doctored with a sprinkle of cashews and fruit and honey and two ounces of milk. My main meal comes at 2pm and doing without food until 4.30am when I’m awake may have led to a bout or two of low blood pressure on waking.

For sleep, I stay awake until 11.30pm at which time, with a 3mg pill of melatonin I’m able to easily get to sleep. But to stay asleep has been an issue. So the first time I wake up at night I’ve started taking a second 3mg dose of melatonin. It seems to be working. I’m sleeping through to at least 3.30am. Hopefully I can get to 4.30am.

And my daily routine. With the advent of longer daylight and milder weather I have returned to taking a exerting sixty minute walk in the evening. This is in addition to the morning walk which, with its attendant plethora of stops, lasts from four to five hours.

So all good.
I love tinkering.

The next six days show one in the high forties and the others in the fifties.

Tick Tock.
In clock language:

Enjoy today.

Postings Count, Weather Brief, and Dinner
Monday, April 1, 2019

My 360th consecutive posting, committed to 5,000.
After 360 posts we’re at the 7.20% mark of my commitment, the commitment a different way of marking the passage of time.

Time is 12.01am.

On Monday Boston’s temperature will reach a high of 43* with a feels-like temperature of 34* under mainly sunny skies.

This from Sally C re: Shrimp, jokes, and weird.

Dear Dom,

Love the spots and zebra stripes on those shrimp!
Elegant creatures, aren't they?
That first one looks to be taking an aggressive stance.

Phillip encountered a similarly bold crawdad several years ago.
He had arrived at one of the office buildings he was to clean that evening, right after a powerful thunderstorm had raged through the area.
As he walked across the parking lot to the office, he noticed a small moving object in the middle of the large lot.
He went closer and discovered it was a crawdad, at least a hundred yards from the nearest marshes adjacent to the office campus.
Phillip could only speculate that the storm had sucked the crawdad up from the marsh and thrown it on the expanse of asphalt.
He bent down to rescue the creature, but it raised its tiny claws defiantly.
It didn't matter how big Phillip was, the little beast was determined to tear Phillip apart should he mess with it.
So Phillip let it be and retreated.
It resumed its trek across the parking lot, headed for its distant home.

I've also posted the type joke to my copyediting teachers at Emerson College.
They appreciate such things.
A few years ago, I forwarded to them a version of "Jabbberwocky" that had been subjected to sentence diagramming.
(I know: I'm weird.  I loved sentence diagramming in school.  My practical, mechanical nature was blossoming, no doubt.  I still like such things.)

Answer to the Question of the Day:
What is a sandwich?

A sandwich is a food typically consisting of vegetables, sliced cheese or meat, placed on or between slices of bread, or more generally any dish wherein two or more pieces of bread serve as a container or wrapper for another food type.
The sandwich began as a portable finger food in the Western world, though over time it has become prevalent worldwide.

Sandwiches are a popular type of lunch food, taken to work, school, or picnics to be eaten as part of a packed lunch. The bread can be either plain, or coated with condiments such as mayonnaise or mustard, to enhance its flavor and texture.
As well as being homemade, sandwiches are also widely sold in restaurants and can be served hot or cold.
There are both savory (a small serving of food that is spicy or salty but not sweet) sandwiches, such as deli meat sandwiches, and sweet sandwiches, such as a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich
Thomas Gainsborough - The original uploader was Hugh Manatee at English Wikipedia.

The sandwich is named after its supposed inventor, John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich.
The Wall Street Journal has described it as Britain's "biggest contribution to gastronomy".

The modern sandwich is named after Lord Sandwich, but the exact circumstances of its invention and original use are still the subject of debate.
A rumor in a contemporaneous travel book called Tour to London by Pierre-Jean Grosley formed the popular myth that bread and meat sustained Lord Sandwich at the gambling table.
But Sandwich was into many bad habits, including the Hellfire club, and any story may be a creation after the fact.

Lord Sandwich was a very conversant gambler, the story goes, and he did not take the time to have a meal during his long hours playing at the card table.
Consequently, he would ask his servants to bring him slices of meat between two slices of bread, a habit well known among his gambling friends.
Other people, according to this account, began to order "the same as Sandwich!", and thus the "sandwich" was born.
The sober alternative to this account is provided by Sandwich's biographer N. A. M. Rodger, who suggests that Sandwich's commitments to the navy, to politics, and to the arts mean that the first sandwich was more likely to have been consumed at his work desk.

The original sandwich was a piece of salt beef between two slices of toasted bread.

I keep a notebook.
I get an idea, I jot it down or else I’ll forget it.
Among the notes, changes I want to make to my life.

Good Morning on this Monday, the First Day of April.

Today we talked about tinkering, with our lives and lifestyles.
About the weather, calendar, and dinner, a sandwich of leftover roasted meats.
We posted a joke and a note from Sally C re: shrimp and jokes.
And we asked and answered a question on the sandwich.

And now? Gotta go.

Che vuoi? Le pocketbook?

See you soon.

Your Love
